Wardrobe inspiration from nature: deep fall red, yellow and gray

As I was walking my dog this morning, I could smell a hint of fall. Out of all seasons, the smell of fall is the strongest and brings back a flood of memories instantly. I think of the anticipation of seeing old friends, the uncertainty of a new schedule, or even sitting on bleachers watching an after school game surrounded by changing foliage. Fall is the marker of childhood milestones. Don't forget to pull out your cameras this week to photograph your kids' first week back in school. These moments are fleeting.

I picked the above cockatiels for today's wardrobe color inspiration thinking they represent warm fall colors and would be lovely for a family's fall portraits. Well, I quickly discovered these colors are very popular this season in stores! I recommend bringing a few extra accessories to your fall session. Knit hats and scarves will add coziness to your photographs.

Earlier in August I visited Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle with a friend to capture photographs of colorful birds. I have a nice stock of inspiration to come!
