You have no certainty until you try

Almost exactly a year ago I decided to try out photographing kids. I hadn't worked with children much, but thought I would enjoy focusing on their ever changing faces and spirited personalities. I put up an ad, looking for families to help build my portfolio, and from that initial inquiry, I stayed busy with referrals through to the end of 2014.

Though towards the end of the year, I started once again getting more business shoot requests. After dipping back into commercial and reflecting extensively along the way, I have come to the conclusion I love commercial photography. The detail, planning and execution that goes in hand with working with businesses honestly gives me the craziest butterflies.

Sometimes taking a step back, makes you see the big picture clearer. It allows you to see what gets you excited in the morning. I feel I was almost blind to the fact I am passionate about commercial photography. My Instagram feed only has commercial photographers. I love love love getting catalogs from Pottery Barn, Patagonia, King Arthur and Title Nine (my list could go on). I get all fired up seeing commercial photographs, trying to figure out how they were created. I confess I am a total commercial geek.

Going forward, you will see changes to my website. While I will be focusing on business shoots, I will happily take a family session from time to time. Don't be afraid to contact me about scheduling a kid session.

Cheers to discovering your passions in life (even if it has been right in front of you for years)!
