The Iowa State Fair
Last August, my husband, his parents and I visited the Iowa State Fair. Born in Iowa, the three of them did not realize their fair is famous. As a non-Iowan, I felt we all needed to experience this piece of the United States of America! My two requirements while on the fairgrounds: visit the butter cow and eat at least one food on a stick. Success!
Monster Arm Wrestling competition!!
The famous butter cow! First created in 1911, each year this life-size cow is carved out of 600 pounds of delicious Iowa butter.
The fair boasts over 60 foods on a stick. Here we have three dipped in chocolate: cannoli, cheesecake, and key lime pie. Other fascinating foods: soft salted chocolate-dipped almond pretzel, deep fried cupcake, hard-boiled egg, a pickle, peanut butter and jelly, and the list goes on.
I think the cow on the other side of the fence sees things a little greener.

This is one of such competitions. Here we have the largest bull. The largest boar was equally impressive.
I live just under 2,000 miles from the Iowa State Fairgrounds, and have put the fair back on my list of places I must visit.
